Winter Concert

The CJS Winter Concert took place on Friday 8 December at City of London School led by our Head of Music and Head of Singing.

After weeks of preparation, children and staff were excited to share their performances. This whole school event was a wonderful celebration of our values of community, joy and scholarship. A moment to share the talent and musicality of our student body in a joyous expression of community with parents.

The audience was treated to a diverse programme of Winter-themed music. The concert opened with sublime performances of Christmas classics played by the string ensembles; the beautiful tone and blend of their sound was breath-taking, and mature for such young players.

The Percussion Ensemble performed a toe-tapping rendition of ‘Frosty the Snowman’, and the Year 6 Boys entertained with a stirring arrangement of ‘Sevivon’, a Chanukah favourite; their energy and passion truly brought the Hebrew text to life. Year 4's spectacular performance of Sleigh Ride combined a two-part harmony and some captivating choreography, taking the audience on a magical journey through the snow.

Our spectacular VMT Orchestra supported the performance of two Chanukah classics, the sound of ‘The Dreidel Song’ and ‘O Chanukah’ filled The Great Hall.  The combined Junior Band and Wind Sinfonia played two pop-hits, ‘Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer’ and ‘Merry Christmas Everybody’, featuring an impressive range of woodwind, brass and percussion instruments, and including a lovely trumpet solo played by Lizzie.

Year 6 and 6 girls performed ‘Carol of the Bells’, accompanied by Ms Wick on the harp with an impressive three-part harmony. Year 3's performance of ‘A Christmas Cracker’ was full of gusto and humour; this was an audience favourite and the cracker confetti went off with a bang! More communal singing followed with a Carol Medley of Once in Royal, Ding Dong Merrily, While Shepherds Watched, and We Three Kings. Other performances featured children from Junior and Senior Voices singing two winter songs.

The grand finale of the concert was Jingle Bells, a final piece of communal singing featuring staff from CJS staff on handbells. Overall a wonderful celebration of music scholarship and shared Christmas cheer!
