A taste of Maths and Humanities with year 4

What a fabulous two weeks we have spent in year 4!
We have started our Anglo Saxons and Vikings topic in Humanities, and we are diving into it through our class book, Riddle of the Runes.
In Maths, we have been investigating patterns which exist throughout the times tables, alongside divisibility rules. In Science, we have been very busy learning how to construct circuits and thinking about how electricity works!

"I enjoyed making our own societies in Humanities because we were making big decisions and it felt important."
"I liked looking at "fake news" in CS because it taught me that you have to look really carefully at news and not take things for granted."
"In English, it has been really satisfying planning and writing setting descriptions based on Riddle of the Runes."
"I enjoyed C.S. and Humanities because in C.S. we got to make presentations on fake news and in English we wrote our Viking Kennings!"
"I’ve enjoyed PE this term and I’ve also enjoyed learning in Maths about the zero times table. Also in English, I found kennings very fun!"
"This week in Maths I’ve enjoyed learning about dividends and divisors."
"Mrs Sommers came to talk about the Y4 residential and answer our questions. I can't wait for it!"
"We wrote a kenning in English this week about our class book, Riddle of the Runes. Mr Reed challenged us to make it rhyme."
"Do you know what distributive law is? We learned how to use it in Maths this week!"

Gray’s Inn Singers have been crowned UK champions at Barnardo’s National Choir Competition as well as winning at The Watford Festival 2026
The Gray’s Inn Singers from City Junior School have also won the Grand Prize for Musical Excellence at the Barnardo’s National Choir Competition. The choir performed at Birmingham Symphony Hall on Tuesday 3 March, having been selected as one of 16 outstanding finalists in the Junior Choir category. Their programme featured a captivating performance of Sakura, a traditional Japanese song arranged by Michael Neaum, followed by Larysa Kuzmenko’s dramatic and evocative Winds, which portrays the gathering intensity of a storm. This achievement is a testament to the children’s hard work, dedication, and passion for singing, and we are incredibly proud of them.…
