A week of excitement in year 4

These past two weeks have been jam-packed with academic, cultural and outdoor adventure for year 4.  

From showcasing musical talent at fantastic breakfast concerts to demonstrating sporting prowess during the House Football and Cross Country event at Grove Park, it’s been non-stop action. And amidst all of that, the learning happening in our classrooms has been truly exceptional. 

Maths lessons have had us delving deeper into the concept of multiplicative relationships—exploring how any two numbers can be connected through multiplication, working with Gattegno charts to understand scaling by powers of 10.  

English lessons have been brought to life by the thrilling pages of Riddle of the Runes. The children have stepped into the shoes of the main character, Alva, practicing modal verbs and crafting diary entries brimming with emotive language and fronted adverbials. 

Another highlight of the past week has been hearing from pupils who celebrate the Lunar New Year explain how they mark this important occasion. Pupils decorated lanterns with symbols of the new year. Looking ahead to next week, excitement is brewing as we prepare for the residential trip to Dorset. Anticipation is mounting as pupils prepare for the adventure ahead, where we hope they will make some lifelong memories.

"I'm really enjoying learning about electricity in science. I want to be a pilot when I grow up, so it will help me." 

"The best thing about Lunar New Year is getting together with my family and decorating the house, so it was fun to make a lantern to take home. Xin nian kuai le!" 

"Sutton Hoo was the favourite thing I've learned about this week. I even wrote a rap about it at home!"
