Celebrating the King’s Coronation
All news
On Friday 5 May, we marked King Charles’ Coronation with a special day of celebration.
Pupils came to school wearing red, white and/or blue, and took part in a range of Coronation- themed activities. Highlights included a royal-themed dance workshop for each class, and making paper crowns adorned with jewels and cotton wool trim. The children ended the school day watching footage of the Coronation of Queen Elizabeth II, while enjoying some regal cupcakes. Our wonderful Parents & Friends Association also arranged for every child to take home a commemorative bookmark.
Year 6 workshop at City of London School
Year 6 enjoyed a challenging, yet celebratory, teamwork morning with the Year 6 boys at CLS. Working in mixed groups, they planned, wrote, designed and illustrated letters to City of London children of the future, creating fascinating time capsules.
After some excellent collaborative work, the children all enjoyed a royal tea party, with coronation chicken, cucumber sandwiches and jam scones. The teams worked well together and enjoyed each other's company enormously, with some vigorous political debate and interesting questions posed, on subjects such as the future, royalty, power and who is the richest person in the world?

The Gray’s Inn Singers from City Junior School have also won the Grand Prize for Musical Excellence at the Barnardo’s National Choir Competition. The choir performed at Birmingham Symphony Hall on Tuesday 3 March, having been selected as one of 16 outstanding finalists in the Junior Choir category. Their programme featured a captivating performance of Sakura, a traditional Japanese song arranged by Michael Neaum, followed by Larysa Kuzmenko’s dramatic and evocative Winds, which portrays the gathering intensity of a storm. This achievement is a testament to the children’s hard work, dedication, and passion for singing, and we are incredibly proud of them.…
