CJS String Sinfonia Shine at the Music for Youth National Festival

Over the summer, our talented CJS String Sinfonia pupils from Years 5 and 6 took to the stage at Birmingham Symphony Hall as part of the Music for Youth National Festival 2026. Selected to perform in the festival’s ‘Rising Stars’ Showcase, the ensemble performed Cold Frosty Morning by Larry Moore, followed by Movements from Peter Warlock’s Capriol Suite.

The Music for Youth National Festival brings together young musicians from across the country, giving them the opportunity to perform in professional venues, share their music and experience the excitement of performing alongside other young ensembles. Being selected for the ‘Rising Stars’ Showcase gave our pupils the chance to perform on a national stage, which was a very memorable experience.

The pupils gave an energetic and confident performance, demonstrating the excellent musicianship and teamwork they have developed throughout the year. The adjudicator was particularly impressed by the ensemble’s ‘rich, well blended sound, secure intonation and strong sense of rhythm’. The violinists and violas were praised for their important middle voice work, while the cellos and four double basses provided a strong and balanced foundation for the ensemble.

The Capriol Suite was a particular highlight, with the pupils maintaining an excellent driving tempo and tackling its lively passages with impressive precision. The adjudicator described the performance as a joy to listen to, praising the ensemble’s energy and the confidence of the players. It was a fantastic opportunity for our young musicians, and we are so proud of all they achieved.
