In the classroom with year 5

In English, the children have been creating their own portal stories, where their characters are transported to imaginative and unexpected worlds. They’ve shown great creativity in building these settings and developing their narratives.

In Maths, pupils have just finished a unit on fractions, and the children have demonstrated a strong understanding of key concepts. To consolidate their learning, they took part in a challenging fraction investigation where they applied their knowledge to solve real-world problems.

In Humanities, we’ve been exploring propaganda during the witch hunts and comparing it to modern-day examples. The class has engaged in thoughtful discussions about how information can be used to influence public opinion and how this is still relevant today.

In Art and DT, the children are finishing off their respective projects – completing their intricate printing work and crafting impressive models of King Charles Spaniels. Their attention to detail and creativity have really shone through!

In PSHE, they’ve been continuing to learn about careers by reflecting on their own strengths and qualities. They recently took part in a goal-setting activity, where they thought carefully about their future aspirations and the steps they might take to achieve them.

Year 5 also had the fantastic opportunity to take part in an iGEM workshop, where they learned all about organisms and genetic engineering. They were fascinated by the world of synthetic biology and asked insightful questions about how scientists can modify organisms to solve real-world challenges.
