London Learning: Year 4 at Camley Street
All news
This week, Year 4 visited Camley Street Nature Park to explore the fascinating world of animals and their habitats. We travelled by Tube to the park, where we learned about the different animals that live there, their unique features, and where they fit within the food chain. Becoming scientists for the day, we discovered how to identify signs of wildlife by looking for clues such as tracks, scratches, and other markings.
We enjoyed searching for minibeasts on the forest floor and then went pond dipping to investigate aquatic life. Throughout the day, we reflected on the positive changes we can make to help protect the environment and support local wildlife. Before we left, the children were challenged to complete an ‘Action for Nature’ at home by doing something small to help local wildlife or care for the environment. Please encourage your child to think about what they would like to do, and bring any photos into school to share with the class.
Ask any Year 4's about our trip when you see us. We have lots of exciting ideas and discoveries to share!
"I was surprised to learn that crayfish are really bad to have in ponds because they are invasive and destroy habitats."
"I liked using the net and big stick to get minibeasts out of the trees and bushes. We found some really tiny spiders."
"The trip was amazing! My favourite part was pond dipping. Apolline and I found a dead crayfish in the water."
"The trip was great. First we went to search for bugs and we found spiders, woodlouse, snails and beetles. After we went pond dipping were we caught leches, freshwater shrimp and even a cray fish!"
"I enjoyed looking at all the interesting animals. I did not realise how many things you could find on a leaf!"
"I liked doing pond dipping because I liked seeing all the animals in the pond - even the creepy crawlies!"
