Plants, Bees & Brilliant Discoveries

Over the last two weeks, each of our Year 3 classes visited Chelsea Physic Garden to learn more about pollination and the different parts of a plant. The children explored the beautiful gardens, discovered fascinating plants and found out more about the important role that bees and other pollinators play in our ecosystem.

There were plenty of exciting discoveries along the way, including learning about forced rhubarb and how you can actually hear it growing! The children also enjoyed spotting butterflies, bees and ladybirds, as well as investigating edible plants and their traditional uses.

The children particularly enjoyed getting out into the garden and sharing their discoveries:

“My favourite thing about Chelsea Physic Garden was looking at the plants and guessing what they were! We also learnt lots about bees!”

“The experience was unforgettable! We learnt about forced rhubarb and how you can hear it growing!”

“We saw lots of pollinators such as butterflies, bees and ladybirds. I had such a fun time there seeing all the bugs.”

“I loved learning how the bees communicate and enjoyed the dancing.”

“Seeing all the plants was fascinating! The flowers were really magical and colourful and I loved looking at the bees.”

It was a fantastic opportunity for Year 3 to take their learning outside the classroom and experience the natural world first-hand. A huge thank you to all the parents who volunteered their time to support the trips — we couldn't have done it without you!

What a wonderful couple of weeks of plants, pollinators and discovery!
