Year 5 & 6 Winter Concert

Our much-anticipated Winter Concert was a spectacular celebration of music, with exceptional performances by our talented Year 5 and 6 pupils. The evening featured a delightful mix of choirs and ensembles that captured the festive spirit and showcased the impressive achievements of our students. 

The concert opened with the combined Wind Sinfonia and String Sinfonia, setting the winter scene with their atmospheric performance of Walking in the Air. The String Sinfonia then gave a stunning rendition of See, the Conquering Hero Comes and Winter Wonderland. The delicate yet powerful sound of the ensemble filled the CLS Great Hall, creating a beautiful atmosphere that enchanted the audience. 

Next, the Percussion Ensemble brought a unique flair to the evening with the toe-tapping Kuku. Their dynamic rhythms and lively energy were engaging. 

Our talented quartets also impressed with their performances. The Bradshaw Quartet brought us Catch Me if You Can by Richard Kershaw, while the Cheng Quartet delivered a charming version of Sans Day Carol, a traditional Cornish carol. The Tammisola Quartet added passion and musicality with Habanera from Carmen by Bizet, leaving the audience in awe. 

The Year 5 pupils brought the audience to tears with their delightful singing of The Little Drummer Boy, featuring a captivating snare drum solo by Marquis C. Year 6 followed with their spirited performance of It’s the Most Wonderful Time of the Year, spreading joy and festive cheer. 

Senior Voices performed a mix of traditional songs, starting with the beautiful Fum Fum Fum (a Catalan carol), followed by the rousing Hine Ma Tov (a traditional Hebrew song), which had the audience on the edge of their seats. 

The Wind Sinfonia performed Winter from Four Seasons by Vivaldi, followed by a lively rendition of Swingle Bells. Their crisp execution and vibrant energy was joyful. 

The Guitar Ensemble gave an intimate performance of Snowflake Mountain by David Wise, and the Gray’s Inn Singers mesmerised the audience with their beautiful performances of So Many Stars by Lin Marsh and an a cappella 2-part arrangement of Carol of the Bells. 

A real highlight of the evening was the Year 5 & 6 Joint Choir, who performed Away in a Manger and Jingle Bells, filling the hall with their beautiful harmonies and festive spirit. Their singing was accompanied by our superlative VMT Band, whose professional playing elevated the children's performances to new heights. 

The concert concluded with the communal songs, where the entire congregation joined in to sing Carol Medley, Dreidel, O Chanukah, and the ever-popular 12 Days of Christmas, complete with actions and staff on bells. It was the perfect way to close an unforgettable evening of music. 

We would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to all the pupils, staff, and families for making this concert a tremendous success. The hard work, dedication, and passion of our Year 5 and 6 musicians were evident in every note, and it was a joy to celebrate their achievements in this spectacular concert.
