Year 3 & 4 Summer Concert
All news
On Tuesday 16 June, Year 3 and Year 4 were delighted to wow the audience at their Summer Concert. The children performed with such confidence and it was wonderful to see them showcase all the skills they have been learning in class, choirs, ensembles and lessons over over the last few months.
It was a packed programme, with the String Ensemble starting with Marco Takes a Walk and then the deeply evocative Tom-Tom-Tomahawk, with it's use of bold, percussive rhythms to evoke a sense of adventure and mystery. The Percussion Ensemble then played Junkanoo, a traditional tune reflecting the infectious joy and celebration of the Caribbean carnival. Year 3 took us Down in the Jungle, where all sorts of animals were washing their clothes and then the Guitar Ensemble whisked us off to the Orient for Chai Kingdom. Next, Junior Voices inspired us with I Have a Dream and Whisper! which had surprisingly little whispering! Junior Band turned up the volume with Drunken Sailor and Show Stopper, before CJS Singers sang Simple Gifts and then a beautiful and very complex reinterpretation of Sing a Song of Sixpence, transforming the familiar nursery rhyme into an amazing multi-layered story. After so much concentration, Year 4 performed Hakuna Matata, a reassuring song to remind us to live with no worries and help us relax. In the finale, Year 3 and Year 4 took to the stage together to sing the final three songs. First, was a super rendition of So Long, Farewell, where even the audience had to perform! Next was Building, which explored themes of gathering resources, building foundations, and constructing something beautiful - both in terms of brick-and-mortar structures and musical melodies. We ended In The Jungle, with a cacophony of animal noises helping us to imagine a landscape teeming with exotic wildlife!
