Year 3 work on their Stone Age topic and vote for Pupil Parliament

Year 3 are working on a Stone Age topic, which has proved to be very varied across different Humanities lessons and has prompted much imaginative thinking.

In English lessons, pupils have written their own Stone Age recipes and have created a convincing advert for a pair of Stone Age trousers (made from stone, of course). A historical engagement with the topic has led to investigations around tools, materials and what life was like during the Stone Age. Meanwhile, Art classes have engaged a more active participation in Stone Age cave drawings, and thinking about what materials people would have been using to make their drawings. Each pupil did their own ‘cave drawing’ and then they were assembled to create a larger, collaborative artwork.  

Year 3’s busy week has also involved an election process for a class MP where pupils put themselves forward to present a speech to their class about why they should be voted in as their class MP. The children were then able to cast their vote in the polling booths outside Ms Thompson’s office. It has been an exciting process for children to step up to put themselves forward to represent their peers, and to practice their speech-writing and public speaking skills. What a week it’s been!
