Year 4 Art – Ancient Greece (3)

As part of their studies of Ancient Greece, Year 4 have been experimenting with different ways of creating Greek pots.

First, we used the sgraffito technique to make our own paintings of layered pots and scratched intricate patterns into them. Then we used clay to build pots, using a pinch pot for a base and coiling up the sides. We got very messy and enjoyed experimenting with the clay to create outcomes that are both sturdy and delicate. Next we will take inspiration from the Cretian Octopus Vase to add a decorative design. Perhaps you can spot the tentacles already formed on some of our handles!
