Year 4 team building curriculum day at The Hive

Year 4 enjoyed an exciting team-building day at The Hive Outdoor Learning Centre.

The children enjoyed hands-on learning activities, involving pond dipping, where they explored ideas around food chains and how different species rely on each-other. The children were invited to consider the threat posed to delicate pond habitats by climate change and pollution, and they even carefully collected some pond resident beetles and snails. A garden trail required the students to work in small groups to navigate using co-ordinates, maps and compasses. This was a challenging activity that encouraged teamwork and determination.  

In the afternoon, pupils explored Woodland Habitats in the forest, exploring invertebrate presences in the forest, like worms and slugs. The session involved learning about the role of each animal in the woodland ecosystem. Questions of deforestation and climate change arose once again, prompting much thought amongst the children. 

Year 4 children said: 

"My favourite thing was the pond dipping because we got to explore pond creatures and wildlife." 

"Last week, we went on a trip to the Hive. My favourite part was the map reading. We all had a lot of fun!"
