Year 4 travel back in time for a day to celebrate the Ancient Greeks

On Thursday, Year 4 stepped into the world of ancient Greece, exploring Grecian dress, myths, traditions, daily life, and the Olympics!
Dressed in their Grecian finest, the children welcomed the goddess Athena herself to CJS! With her guidance, pupils explored iconic Greek philosophers and gods, re-enacted the tale of King Midas, and even competed in a recreation of one of the earliest Olympic running races.
Back in class, we delved into what life was like for children in ancient Greece—what they ate, how they dressed and the subjects they studied. The children were especially intrigued by the toys archaeologists have uncovered, such as wheeled animal figures. Inspired by these ancient artefacts, pupils crafted their own versions using everyday materials. It was a day filled with hands-on learning, creativity, and excitement—a brilliant way to bring history to life!

Gray’s Inn Singers have been crowned UK champions at Barnardo’s National Choir Competition as well as winning at The Watford Festival 2026
The Gray’s Inn Singers from City Junior School have also won the Grand Prize for Musical Excellence at the Barnardo’s National Choir Competition. The choir performed at Birmingham Symphony Hall on Tuesday 3 March, having been selected as one of 16 outstanding finalists in the Junior Choir category. Their programme featured a captivating performance of Sakura, a traditional Japanese song arranged by Michael Neaum, followed by Larysa Kuzmenko’s dramatic and evocative Winds, which portrays the gathering intensity of a storm. This achievement is a testament to the children’s hard work, dedication, and passion for singing, and we are incredibly proud of them.…
