Year 5 & 6 Summer Concert
All news
On Wednesday 10 June, Year 5 and Year 6 took to the stage to dazzle the audience at their Summer Concert. Their confidence, professionalism and musicality were breath-taking and it was a joy to see the musical progress they have made over their years at CJS.
The programme started with the String Sinfonia performing pieces from the Capriol Suite, which reinterprets the grandeur and rustic charm of an Elizabethan Renaissance court. Next, the Percussion Ensemble played Calypso Dream, which evoked tropical relaxation and joyous energy and then the CJS Quartets demonstrated their outstanding musicianship.
Year 5 took to the stage to sing the beautiful Hushabye Mountain, a tranquil lullaby, where boats are "sailing your worries away". The Guitar Ensemble continued the relaxing tone with Pastime with Good Company and Simple Gifts. Then Senior Voices energised the audience with the song Cantar! and its infectious Latin groove capturing the lively spirit of Cuban salsa. They finished their set with From Now On from The Greatest Showman, a beautiful promise to seize the day and they definitely did!
Wind Sinfonia played Finn McCool and then Gray's Inn Singers sang the Japanese song Sakura, followed by a spirited reinterpretation of the nursery rhyme This Old Man. They finished with the witty A La Cart, which saw Mozart sail past on a scooter!
Year 6 then sang Riversong, which follows a river's expansive journey as a metaphor for personal growth and spiritual freedom - very apt as we say good bye to our Year 6 and wish them well as they start their new secondary schools! Year 6 were joined on stage by Year 5 for the finale, when the children all sang Music Is, which celebrates the profound impact music has on people's lives - it certainly has a big impact on our lives at CJS and we hope it does at home as well!
We wish Year 6 the very best of luck at their new schools and hope they will take the joy of music with them; and we look forward to welcoming back Year 5 next year with the joy that this will hold!
