Year 5 trip to the Charles Dicken’s museum

On 5 December, Year 5 visited the Charles Dickens Museum for the afternoon.

The museum is situated in what was Charles Dicken's London home from 1837-1839.

The museum exhibits the writer's house as if he had only just left; a typical middle-class Victorian home, complete with furnishings, portraits and decorations which are known to have belonged to Dickens.

Children stepped into this world from 1837, one which is both familiar yet vastly different to how we live today, and the place where one of the greatest writers in the English language found his inspiration.

"We made Christmas Carol inspired cards using quills and ink - it was really fun!" 

"My favourite part was seeing Charles' bedroom because it was really interesting. He had a bath near his bed and a commode where he went to the toilet!" 

"I liked the stuffed raven in the children's nursery, it was called Grip. It was quite scary and dominating!" 

"My favourite bit was definitely the fact that the rooms all had things that Charles Dicken's had actually used!"
