Year 6 pupils visit CLS for an author talk with Sam Sedgeman

Some of our CJS Year 6 pupils visited City of London School to partake in a talk by childrens' author, Sam Sedgeman.

A recent book, ‘Isaac Turner Investigates’, follows aspiring inventor Isaac Turner on his breathtaking adventures around the world. Infused with the protagonist’s love for science and how things work, the book is inspired by everything that makes the world tick: mechanics, navigation, physics, and the boundless possibility of scientific discovery. 

Other works by Sedgeman include ‘Epic Adventures’, a hardcover non-fiction extravaganza about the worlds greatest railway journeys, or ‘Adventures on trains’, his bestselling series of fiction novels which follows a young boy and his uncle, a travel journalist with a passion for trains, on their journeys around the world. 

Sedgeman discussed his series of books with the children, thinking about how he takes inspiration and ideas from the real world to kickstart a piece of fiction; be it scientific discovery or railway voyages. 

Sedgeman discussed his overall process and his approach to writing a new book, including the daunting task of facing the blank page. Sedgeman read out some extracts of his work with the help of the children.
