Year 6 Put Their Debating Skills to the Test at CLSG
All news
Year 6 enjoyed an exciting and engaging trip to CLSG for a debating competition, where they had the opportunity to meet pupils from other schools, develop their debating skills and put their arguments to the test.
The day began with an informal session with a group of Year 11 pupils from CLSG, giving the children the chance to get to know one another before taking part in a series of fun debating games. From ‘Two Truths and a Lie’ to other activities designed to encourage quick thinking and confident speaking, the pupils quickly got into the spirit of the competition.
After a well-earned snack of juice and popcorn, it was time for the main event. The children debated against pupils from two other schools, putting forward their ideas, listening carefully to opposing arguments and responding confidently. They showed excellent teamwork, enthusiasm and persuasive speaking skills, securing victories in both of their debates.
The successful day ended with a chocolate prize to bring back to CJS — a fitting reward for their fantastic achievement!
As one Year 6 pupil reflected: “The debating trip was fun for all of us! We won both our debates, so we got to take the chocolate prize back to CJS.”
Well done to all the pupils who took part for representing CJS so brilliantly and demonstrating confidence, creativity and excellent debating skills.
