Year 6 visit Linklaters for a Presentation Skills Workshop

Six Year 6 pupils participated in a workshop at Linklater’s centering on presentation and communication skills.

Pupils explored the range of jobs within Linklaters, a ‘magic circle’ law firm and one of the biggest firms in the world. With 31 offices globally and 5,678 staff members total, only half the staff body is made up of lawyers; the firm also comprises a variety of roles in finance, strategy, business development and marketing, technology solutions and client innovation.  

After learning general information about the firm’s practices, Year 6 began exploring ideas around greeting somebody well and presenting oneself with confidence. Employees from Linklaters then came around to introduce themselves and answer any questions pupils had about their day-to-day work or career path more broadly. 

These skills were then developed with a workshop on presentation and communication skills. Techniques discussed were the use of one’s voice, body language, projection, non-verbal communication and more.  

In the afternoon, pupils worked in teams on a project focusing on the wellbeing of their office workers, with an unlimited budget! After a brainstorming session, pupils created posters before presenting their ideas. The best communicators were rewarded with a special Linklaters tote bag as a prize! 

It was overall a splendid day, from meeting Linklaters employees and getting a sense of what it would be like to work there, to developing teamwork, communication and presentation skills, and above all a sense of self-confidence in all three.
